Naomi Merer and pianist Mandee Madrid-Sikich will be performing a recital of songs by all women composers, including Clara Schumann, Margaret Bonds, Undine Smith Moore, Libby Larsen, Vítězslava Kaprálová, and Ilse Weber.

Naomi performs as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem with the Santa Barbara Choral Society under the baton of Dr. Eugene Rogers.
Naomi, a 2022 Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation winner, will perform Come scoglio from Mozart’s Così fan tutte as a guest artist during the finals of the competition. This is a private event.

Naomi will give a lecture on her research and culminating dissertation, Get thee to an asylum: reflecting on the evolution of mental illness and its portrayal in Thomas’ operatic mad scene, which discusses Ambroise Thomas’ 1868 Hamlet, and especially his characterization of Ophélie (his version of Shakespeare’s Ophelia) and her mad scene.
Additionally, Naomi will perform Ophélie’s Act 4 mad and suicide scenes as well as Jake Heggie’s Songs and Sonnets to Ophelia in collaboration with pianist Mandee Madrid Sikich.
